Chicken Pox Week 8/29/2011

ALRIGHTY THEN FAMILY..
WELL THIS WEEK WAS THE WEEK OF CHICKEN POX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ya you were all out on the lake enjoying your time, living it up, and having fun and i was quite literally stuck in bed and could not do anything.. so i will give you the nice quick update of what i could do this week before i was forced into the room for the week.. So to start last week we went to pisco for p day where elder carter was.. but to my dismay he had an emergency change to lima two weeks ago so I didnt get to see him in that moment. we played soccer with them and i thought it went pretty well. all of the other missionaries were saying i needed to call hna manning and so i did later that day, and i dont think she was happy i waited so long but i dont like to call people when i am sick. i just take the pills i want too.. ibuprofen.. and they work like a charm. anyways all went well and then on wednesday we had a reunion in lima.. now this reunion was a little bit special because Elder Neil L. Anderson came to visit all the missionaries in lima south central and west.. so we got to go and listen to him tell us that what they want for us is to first gain a testimony of Jesus Christ' meaning all that we ask the people to do for the book of mormon.. read about him. he told us to read all the new testament. then ponder about what we read, and lastly pray and ask if its true. it was really cool because it was less on missionary work directly. it was all about gaining stronger testimonies on the things that we teach. for a couple of reasons. to make sure when we finish we will always remember. and second. if we have stronger testimonies on the topic we will only be able to teach and testify of these things so much stronger and with a much more assurity??.. i think that is the word.. But i loved that talk that he left with us and then we got to talk to all the people we could find and guess what there was the whole group, all of us together.. church carter stanfield mckinnley merrit and i... it was awesome. they are all doing really well and elder merritt is like a stick... he got sick in nazca and thinned up good.. haha anyway hopefully things get better this week...in the health, but i love it out here and i love my companion and how he helps me.. 8/22/2011 Lake Powell week for family

WELL FAMILY THERE GOES ANOTHER WEEK!!!
Alright so this week was pretty solid we didnt have very many lessons but the lessons we did have i feel really good about.. so this week i thought would be a longer letter seeing how all y`all are rocking down there at the lake but really there isnt a ton to write about.. haha we found two new families that we can teach and i feel really good about both of them.. for everyone else in our area.. well me and my companion kinda decided that we were going to basically start from scratch because the sisters that were here had investigators that well they are all eternal investigators and they do not want to progress. they dont have any desire to learn or come to church so that is kinda lame.. but me and my companion work really well together and i am super happy with this companionship.. and well i have finally put my finger on who i think of when i look at him.. he reminds me of sloth from goonies.. hahahah it is hilarious and he talks like the old man from the never ending story.. it is incredible.. he is 26 years old and we just roll along finding more people to teach and working and studying really hard.. i love my area and i love meeting the new people and talking to them in the streets. i have gotten a lot better at that so it is pretty legit.. and we have an hermana we are teaching she has to say every lesson that i speak super clear in spanish and i just laugh say thank you and tell her i am practicing and still need to improve a ton. but i am loving it for real..I know this church is true and i am super happy to be here right now.. i thought i would be a little bit trunky with the family at lake powell but i am not.. i am really happy this week and i love it here.. i love my area and all of the members and investigators in this area..

Papa Smurf's Birthday Week

Alright Family well it is the week before the big trip...
Holy cow i cant believe it is already time for all the family to roll into lake powell.. well this week was really just awesome. me and my companion are getting to know our area and all the members and investigators that we get to teach and all that good stuff.. the area we now know pretty well and this week we had 21 lessons in total.. so that was cool.. we kept ourselves working hard searching for some more people to teach because the people we have right now all have just crazy problems and doubts that are more difficult than the normal.. things that they just cant accept happened or recognize that with a prayer, we can receive an answer.. it was just really annoying when we went and visited three different people and they all just said well i dont know if that actually happened, and i dont believe in prayer so you need to convince me it happened with more than you will feel good about something.. so we pulled out all the scriptures we could and i realized that this person really had no interest in the gospel.. she just wanted to listen to the scriptures and I really i dont know why.. she was just getting in my head i think or that is how i felt.. Well after that we had some awesome study sessions this week.. in my personal study i read in mormon, in the book of mormon.. it was really just amazing how much we can get out of just one book in the book of mormon.. i was reading and just soaking in the information.. it was awesome.. in chapter 7 and 9 it just talks about everything .. i dont know how else to explain it.. you should just go and read it.. next thing this week i am back in lima for today anyway because my companion has some bad knees so he is going to get those checked out here in the next little bit and that is why i cant write a ton today.. but i am doing awesome.. my area is coming to life slowly and i love it.. and well last thing i want to say is, happy birthday to my papa smurf this week.. on the sixteenth.. man pops i hadnt thought about it until right now but i wont see you until your sixty.. hahaha.. how funny is that. i hope you have a good one and i am thinking there is a good chance you will work right through it.. but i hope you enjoy every minute and well enjoy preparing for lake powell... oh and last thing again.... this goes out to all of you.. Be safe and dont do things like stab your hand or throw buckets at peoples faces and lastly dont do anything to sink the boat.. that is all i ask.. haha love you all so much and hope you have a great time at the lake..

!st week in Chincha

Holy cow there goes another week.....
Alright well this week went by really fast and just to inform you all even though you all already know.. this is the area where the earthquake hit 4 years back. well i have heard how horrible it was all this week. we were meeting with the members and they all told the same story of how they were in their houses and the earthquake started and they all lost everything.. and then the government said the earthquake was only 7.9 because if it was above 8.0 the government would have to pay to build the houses.. so all of the people of chincha are a little bit bitter that they dont have houses or that the government lied because they all say that it was much bigger than seven or at least bigger than the 8 that they needed it to be.. also one of the hermanos in the ward was talking to us and said that the church helped a ton and helped build 500 houses so that was pretty cool to find out that kevin and amy and family palmer were there as part of that..Anyway this week as mentioned we were meeting all the members and less actives in the area that we could.. we ended up having 16 lessons with members and that is a little bit more than normal.. haha but we also were able to pull 8 lessons with theless active members. it is a little bit stressfull because i only have so much time to get to know the area and all the people before my companion goes home and leaves me here alone.. but then next thing... this week was awesome,, i feel like my studying got like 2 million times more efficient. i was reading and really getting to know all i could from third nephi.. not gonna lie third nephi is awesome!!!!!!! it talks about everything in the world that we need. it talks of the trials of people, the blessings we can receive if we are obedient to all of the commandments that the lord has given us in these days.. Well i know this isnt very long but i want to wish cameron a happy birthday tomorrow and also want to tell emmalyn congrats on starting school. hope you enjoy it because you have a long time to go.. haha. you will understand that when your older.. hahah i am funny... but this was an awesome week my area is sweet as is my companion and wow i love this gospel and seeing how the church can help in different ways.. love you all so much and hope you have a great week.. things go really fast and i dont want to miss a day that goes by..

Aug. 1st, The B'day Party

OH BOY...
Well as i knew what was going to happen last week i got changed from my happiness in villa el salvador in lima to a different happiness down here in chincha, which is three hours south... so it is a good change of scenery to be honest. i got here and ya it is a little bit warm but there is more green down here then there was up in lima or in laderas, so that is cool..but at the same time it wasnt super awesome to leave my families from the old area. but it is ok because i told them at least i will be coming back in august of 2013. so that is going to happen. kind of excited to have a new area now though it seems pretty cool,,, but for the second time in the mission i am taking an area over for sister missionaries. so it is basically opening a new area and it's just difficult to open the area because we are both new to the area and we dont know anybody!! my new companion is elder zuñiga.. he is finishing his mission at the end of this change. i will open this area with him and then he leaves for his house and i will get to direct the area, so it is pretty cool.. i am not too worried about the next changes hahaha... Well this week was pretty much a week of parties the ones that you guys know about for my birthday. well i have been waiting since the beginning of my mission to tell you this but i am actually peruvian... because my birthday falls right on the independance day of peru. so i feel basically 70 percent peruvian "a thank you very much"... but it wasnt just parties because we also had the chance to baptize luigui and fiorella.. it was a great way to go out of the area. i am still a little sad to leave the other 6 with baptismal dates.. i was just really comfortable there with all those awesome people but thats the way the cookie crumbles.. and to finish this letter off i just feel like saying, that i know this church is true. i am excited to be here in the south with my new companion and keep working on the lords time.. i hope you have an awesome week and that you will always remember to pray and act on the feelings you may have. they will not lead you astray. just keep your eye on the prize and all will fall into the right place.. love you all so much and peace out...
